April 2004 Training Sessions
May 2004 Training Sessions
Thursday April 8, we met at Wood duck WMA between Stanton and Norfolk and trained from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. We had 5 club members present and 10 dogs. We worked on land retrieves in light to medium cover using frozen pheasants and wingers. Each of us had choices for singles, doubles, blind, and walkup at various distances. Dogs ranged from pups to HRCH's. Incorporated the gun, using poppers, and simulated a true hunting scenario. The dog work, assistance, stories and weather were all top notch. This is a fairly typical setup for our training days/nights. Next time we look to do some work on drills to help teach us ways to improve our dogs and results. Hope more can make it next time!

Monday April 12, Wood Duck WMA. Ended up being four of us tonight that showed up. Ken, Mike, Matteo, and I. We worked on some drills to get the dogs to follow the gun to start then moved to some marsh and did some double marks that had some small islands to give the dogs an obstacle. We were dive bombed by teal all evening long in the marsh.

Wednesday April 14, Wood Duck WMA. Ken and I were the only club members to show up tonight. We worked with Dave Jansma tonight on some longer marked retrieves. 125yds- 175 yds. We used dead ducks and the dogs worked pretty good for a changeup of a longer retrieve like that. Also ran some blind retrieves. I worked on my dog with a couple fun bumpers in the water then moved to working on some force fetch. Also am getting her to trust me in sending her on a line into the pile of bumpers. Working out great.
